Brooklyn Tech Wins Big in Washington DC!

A huge NYCUDL shout-out to Brooklyn Technical's Solenne Wolfe and Hannah Ravenell, semifinalists of the 2018 Georgetown Day School Invitational last weekend in Washington, DC. With 45 entries from 8 states from the east coast, the team of Wolfe and Ravenell managed to obtain 5 wins in the preliminary debates and defeated teams from Thomas Jefferson HS in the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals debates. As a result, Brooklyn Tech's Wolfe and Ravenell received a tournament bid to the national Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky. Great job Brooklyn Tech, the league is proud of your achievement. Another shout-out to Ashley Yan, an alumna of Brooklyn Tech Debate and NYCUDL for coaching teams, including Wolfe and Ravenell at GDS.

NYCUDL Debaters on Broadway!

Shout outs to NYCUDL debater, Rosdely Ciprian on her role in "What the Constitution Means to Me" -which weaves together stories from three generations of women to critique American politics and governance. According to Producer Heidi Schreck, "Debate taught me to interrogate my own assumptions about the world, which is vital to making art... you have to be ready to argue both sides of the topic. To me, this is connected to the kind of empathy you need as an actor or writer, the willingness to imagine someone else’s point of view, even when you disagree."
