Thank you for everyone making our second middle school tournament of the year possible! 42 schools! 444 students! 107 judges and volunteers! 192 teams! 3 debate events and five different debate divisions!  And not 1, 2, 3, or 4 but ... 5 different debate topics which included: animal ethics, mandatory background checks for gun ownership, Puerto Rico statehood, repealing the Second Amendment, and a ban on plastic bags.

Register for November HS Tournament #2 (11/18) and our November Debate Fest (11/29)!  Applications for the White House Student Scholars Award due on 11/20! 

Saturday, November 18th will be our second high school debate tournament of the season featuring Public Forum Febate (Beginners, Novice, Varsity) and Policy Debate (Varsity). Both Policy Debate divisions (Novice and Junior Varsity) will be a block away at the Bronx Science Local Tournament. Please register by Today by 5:00pm! Debate Coaches can click here to register! Thank you to Clinton HS, Worldview, Bronx Collaborative and Bronx Science for hosting! Debate Topics below! And we always need volunteer judges! Public Forum Debate: Resolved: The United States should require universal background checks for all gun sales and transfers of ownership.

Policy Debate: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its funding and/or regulation of elementary and/or secondary education in the United States.

Additionallly, on November 20th applications are due for the Presidential Scholars Award!  This is a prestigious high school award in which several urban debate league students are selected nationally for Presidential recognition. 

Finally, on November 29th we are hosting our second monthly Debate Fest! This is our monthly  workshop after school open to all debaters and teachers featuring workshops, guest debates, dinner, prizes, raffles and more. While we are focusing on the monthly public forum debate topic, this is open to all debaters in all debate events. Click here to sign up!

NYC Debate Youth Leadership Council & Citywide Networking Event

November 15th, 2017, NYCUDL Office and City Hall, 4:00pm-7:00pm 

Debate Student Leaders of New York City Unite! The Debate Youth Leadership Council is intended to encourage the participation of high school and middle schools students in the debate league - beyond participation in tournaments - and getting involved in helping to lead the debate league, improve programming, supporting new students and new schools, feedback on how the league can be improved, creating and participating in new initiatives, and getting involved in additional opportunities such as debate nights, scholarship opportunities and more.  This Wednesday we are meeting at our office and then going to City Hall for a citywide networking event for youth leadership councils. Debate Fest! Monthly Public Forum Debate Workshop (11/29): College Sports

Thank you everyone for coming to our first debate workshop last week. We had two incredible guests - Stefan Bauschard and Bilal Butt - two of the top debate coaches in the nation!  Click here for photos of the event! Both Bauschard and Bilal have coached numerous debaters to national championships including Harvard, Princeton, Emory, Touranment of Champions and the list goes on and on!

We kick off the holiday season with High School Tournament #3 at Brooklyn Tech High School on December 16th.  The December Public Forum Debate Resolution is Resolved: NCAA student athletes ought to be recognized as employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The Policy Debate Resolution s Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its funding and/or regulation of elementary and/or secondary education in the United States.

While starting with public forum debate - these workshops are for all debaters.
