“We drew our confident girl like this because what matters is not how she looks. What matters is what’s on the inside and how she debates.” - Girls Debate League Workshop Participant (http://bit.ly/girlsworkshop2)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

THANK YOU FOR DEBATE!

Dear Friend,

We wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!  And we give THANKS to YOU for making debate possible. We hope you consider supporting us this Giving Tuesday to donate for donate! #GivingTuesday is an annual day of giving the Tuesday after Thanksgiving for individuals to make the world a better place. And because of your support last season:

  • 1,977 students participated in debates
  • 140 schools with debate teams
  • 28 debate tournaments
  • 25 schools hosting debate tournaments
  • 13,945 rounds of debate
  • 33 debate topics
  • 1690 volunteers judging debates
  • 13,520 volunteer hours
  • 229 students participating in summer debate
  • 5 summer debate institutes over 7 weeks
  • NYCUDL became the largest urban debate league in the nation

We thank you for making all of this possible.  Thank you for being a debater, coach, teacher, principal, parent, volunteer, judge, donor, staff member, board member, advisory board member, intern - thank you to everyone who has shared their passion for debate. In 2011, less than 10 Title I schools had competitive debate teams and less than 100 students participated in debates. Today, we are reversing these statistics thanks to your support. And we hope you consider supporting our efforts to expand debate to even more schools and more students by donating to debate. Please click here to join our end of the year campaign to expand debate in New York City.  Every school should have a debate team. Every student should have access to the best debate education opportunities. Click here to support our Great Debaters!

Sincerely,
Erik, erik@debate.nyc
